An explosion in some public toilets at Weston-super-Mare is being looked into by police. The authorities were alerted when residents heard the bang around the car park on the resort’s beach front in Beach Road. Avon Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews to the scene, but by the time they got there no fires were burning. A spokesman said that the building suffered extensive damage.

A woman used a forged passport for seven years before being caught. Qamar Yasmeen went on to gain a drivers licence and find work under a false name after stealing an identity. Yasmeen was imprisoned, while investigators said the deception had devastating consequences on the victim, who has not been named. Vehicle owners are being hoodwinked by a fake parking ticket scam that demands payment, and includes a £1-per-minute ‘phone information line’ for disputes. The tickets, which look almost identical to a genuine item, are being stuck onto legally parked cars. They demand £68, or £34 if the ‘fine’ is paid within 14 days. Tickets have been found in Cheshire and Staffordshire, issued by a company called Parked Vehicles Division Limited.

When he was asked by officers what items he had in the car, Peter Wells admitted he had £80,000 in a holdall, which he said was for buying trousers.
