Car park barriers deployed in Weston-super-Mare to prevent unauthorized camping

Car park barriers have been deployed at the entrance to a Weston-super-Mare car park in a bid to thwart further unauthorised traveller encampments, a news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

North Somerset Council has funded the £8,000 cost of the new measures after the Melrose car park was plagued by groups of travellers last summer.

Groups of different travellers set up temporary home in the seafront car park on three occasions this year, leaving a trail of mess behind them.

The barriers, at a height of 2.1 metres, will prevent caravans and motorhomes from entering the site.

North Somerset Council executive member for parking Councillor Mark Canniford said: “We’re putting up these barriers following a number of unlawful encampments in the car park at Melrose.

“The barriers will still allow access but mean that caravans and motorhomes won’t be able to get into the car park.”

Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles – the go-to company for reliable and affordable car park barriers and restrictions solutions

We can provide reliable and affordable access restriction barriers for any number of car parks.

Our automatic barriers can work in any weather and are able to immediately recognise authorised personnel. They are supplied complete and ready to accept power and data connections. The barrier arms are available in several different lengths, in order to suit all road widths and car park sizes.

If you need a barrier arm which is longer than 3m we advise that you also install a support post, in order to keep your lifting system working at full capacity for as long as possible.

We can also offer a range of related extras, such as a folding arm mechanism, an impact release mechanism, and a barrier skirt which stops people being able to duck under the barrier to obtain entrance.

Many elements of our car park barriers can be produced in any classic RAL colour you wish for an extra fee. This is great if you are focused on brand continuity throughout your site, or simply want to make the barriers stand out clearly.
