A new set of bollards will be installed in Castle Douglas as a security measure to prevent “unauthorised parking”, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
Members of the town’s common good fund committee agreed to install the new measure in Lochside Park as a security measure.
It comes after travellers set up camp at the park last year, leading to concerns about a detrimental impact on tourism.
They left following court notices being served. The common good fund committee agreed something needed to be done to prevent “unauthorised access” to the park and asked people who use the area for their views on bollards.
And the feedback was favourable, with 13 of the 14 people who responded to the consultation backing the idea.
One caravan owner said the measure was needed as “when the time comes to go home, you always feel very nervous and insecure when these unauthorised people have easy access to the park”.
