Taunton Deane Borough Council and contractors are progressing through a complex project to improve multiple car parks throughout the area.
This has involved ground works, installation of barriers, machines and cabling in car parks including Orchard, High Street, Tangier, Canon Street, Wood Street, Castle Street and Enfield car parks.
The installation should finish by the end of September, and then the equipment will be tested and staff will be trained so that the sites can go live before the busy Christmas period.
Councillor Richard Parrish, executive member for transport and parking at Deane House, said: “This £1.2 million scheme of significant improvements to car parks and signage should make a real difference to drivers in Taunton.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements in place.”
Meanwhile, the council is introducing “small increases” in the cost of using some car parks.
A spokeswoman said a new charging regime will give motorists “a clear understanding of where parking is available and for how long you can stay there”.
She added: “There are small increases for some car parks. Other car parks will remain static in their charging for short stays, while for longer stays in the majority of car parks, it will be cheaper for most people.”
Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles – the go-to company for reliable and affordable car park barriers and restrictions solutions
We can provide reliable and affordable access restriction barriers for any number of car parks.
Our automatic barriers can work in any weather and are able to immediately recognise authorised personnel. They are supplied complete and ready to accept power and data connections. The barrier arms are available in several different lengths, in order to suit all road widths and car park sizes.
If you need a barrier arm which is longer than 3m we advise that you also install a support post, in order to keep your lifting system working at full capacity for as long as possible.
We can also offer a range of related extras, such as a folding arm mechanism, an impact release mechanism, and a barrier skirt which stops people being able to duck under the barrier to obtain entrance.
Many elements of our car park barriers can be produced in any classic RAL colour you wish for an extra fee. This is great if you are focused on brand continuity throughout your site, or simply want to make the barriers stand out clearly.
For further security under high traffic conditions, you could install our full height turnstiles. These are tamper-proof and weather-proof and require no routine maintenance. You can buy single mechanical (manual), single motorised, or double turnstiles.
Moreover, they’re galvanised with polyester powder coat finish for extra durability, which makes them ideal for both interior and exterior installations.
For an interior security point, or simply one where you need less security, you could use our half-height turnstiles. These have a push-through tripod design, and the arms can be manual, motorised or completely free-moving.
All our turnstiles come with a 2-year warranty.
