Metal fencing is being installed at Jackey Bakers in Ramsgate to stop travellers pitching up, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
The security measures have been bolstered up to stop families gaining entry to the fields for their caravans and cars.
Jackey Bakers in Ramsgate has become home to a number of large traveller encampments, with some groups bringing up to 26 vehicles.
As well as 200 metres of metal fencing, Thanet District Council have also installed gates at the entrance to Jackey Backers, as well as CCTV surveillance cameras.
Thanet District Council’s chief executive Madeline Homer commented on the council’s decision: “We have agreed solutions to make unauthorised access to the land at Jackey Bakers more difficult, which include a new two metre fence along the boundary with Sainsbury, bollards to restrict vehicular access to the public right of way, new gates to the entrance of Jackie Bakers and CCTV cameras at the entrance and on the boundary with Sainsbury.”
