Plans for installing new security fencing around the old Great Lever Library in Bolton have been approved by local authorities, with work set to start in the near future, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
Bolton’s planning committee approved the 2.44m fencing at the back of the Bradford Road building.
The front will not be fenced off to maintain the ‘historical merit’ of the ‘detailed façade’ says the planning report.
The natural surveillance provided by the busy road in front of the building is thought to provide enough security for the site which has been the victim of two arson attacks this year.
£600,000 to regenerate the building has been approved by the council as part of the Great Lever Connected Programme.
