Automatic car park barriers with ANPR systems have been deployed in two Gloucester car parks in a bid to streamline access and payment options for drivers, a news report in the local media has been able to suggest.
Gloucester City Council has invested £130,000 in the new pay on foot and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, which will allow customers to take a ticket on arrival to the car park and pay via the pay stations or exit terminals.
In addition to the new machines, users who are paying by contactless debit or credit card will be able to ‘wave and pay’ on entry and exit.
A sensor will register the payment allowing the customer to visit the car park without having to receive a ticket at the machine.
The ‘pay on foot’ parking systems will be supported by using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) allowing disabled users to pre-register their vehicles and drive into the car park hassle free.
The ANPR system will automatically recognise the registered vehicle and the barrier will rise, on both entrance and exit.
