A new car park barrier system where people pay on exit for time used has significantly improved the visitor experience and boosted footfall for Saunton beach in Devon, a local news report has been able to suggest.
Despite initially facing huge opposition from members of the public, the new system has proved popular with locals and visitors, who have been taking advantage of the new hourly rate.
Paul Tamlyn of Saunton beach operator Saunton Beach Enterprises (SBE), said: “It has been the busiest summer we can remember for a while and feedback regarding the new parking system has been very positive overall.
“A phrase we have heard many times over the summer is ‘we haven’t been down here for years, but we’ll be coming back’. That really is fantastic to hear. We would like to take this opportunity to say that we have no plans to change anything for next year.”
