Parking problems caused by parents dropping off their children to school have become so serious in a Cambridge street that the local police has advised residents to install ‘rising bollards’ to keep strangers’ cars off their driveways, a news report can reveal.
Residents of Bosworth Road, Cherry Hinton, are affected by traffic problems caused by parents at the nearby Queen Emma Primary School, the paper suggests, the problem is so bad they are in constant fear of having their driveways blocked.
Cllr Rob Dryden, who represents Cherry Hinton and is mayor of Cambridge, said: "It is just inconsiderate that these drivers should park up on other people’s drives and you could use these bollards to stop them but what we have found is they still park in front of people’s drives anyway.
"It is parents dropping their children at the school who are using Bosworth Road as a shortcut rather than driving all the way around. It is not right that people should have to put their hands in their own pockets to pay for bollards. Drivers doing this should be more considerate."
The Bollards supplied by Carpark Barriers Gates & Turnstiles are equally suitable for both ground or surface mount, are highly flexible in most situations and are available in both cast iron and wood versions, which means that customer will be able to choose either strength or cosmetic appearance, depending on the specific circumstances within which the bollard is set to be mounted.
From simple light weight timber bollards for demarcation purposes, separating pedestrians from traffic or for protecting vulnerable points like corners of buildings that could be accidentally hit by vehicles, static bollards are highly versatile and provide a genuine deterrent.
