An inpatient mental health unit has decided to install higher fences fitted with anti-climb panels in a bid to ensure the patients’ safety, a news report has found.
The Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust has been given planning permission for the £600,000 fencing around the Bradgate Unit, at the Glenfield Hospital site. They also plan to put in anti-climb systems around the roof in each garden.
A spokesman said: "The safety and security of our patients is paramount.
"We have had a small number of incidents of patients climbing the fences or roof at the unit and this has highlighted the need to review the robustness of our safety and security measures to prevent accidents.
"We are investing £600,000 in higher fencing which will not only provide an improved long-term safety solution for our patients but also ensure patients using the gardens at the unit are given improved privacy from the road."
