Work to install bollards and transform Kettering town centre into a fully-pedestrianised zone has begun, a recent news article in the local media has been able to reveal.
As part of the project, manually operated bollards will be installed at the bottom of Meeting Lane and fixed bollards are also being placed at the entrance to Wadcroft. Rising bollards will also be installed in High Street, Lower Street, Meadow Road and Gold Street.
The council says the bollards will not prevent delivery vehicles, but these will be restricted to arrivals between 5pm and 9am on Sunday to Thursday and between 5pm and 8am on Friday and Saturday and delivery vehicles will have swipe cards.
A spokesman for Kettering Council said: “We will keep people informed of progress and key dates so that as minimal an amount of disruption is caused as possible.
“Alongside the communication that Northamptonshire Highways are seeking to have with businesses and the public, Kettering Council will be having discussions about the swipe cards businesses will need to access the zone outside of the core hours for deliveries.”
