A local council was forced to erect new metal fencing and install a CCTV camera in order to combat fly-tipping around a popular coach station, a recent news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
Torbay Council was forced to fence off a green waste recycling area which had slowly grown into a rubbish tip on Lymington Road, near the Torbay coach station. A sign now warns that CCTV cameras are in operation and anyone caught fly-tipping will be prosecuted.
Ward cllr Robert Excell said the council had initially tried to educate people against fly tipping but when that did not work had decided it had to put up the fencing and warning sign.
“People abused the service, we tried first to educate them and we would have hoped people would have followed the rules. But they didn’t.”
