A local council was forced to carry out an emergency review of the level of security at all of its car parks amid rumours that 2,000 travellers are due to arrive in the area for a wedding.
Posts on social media websites suggested that the travellers are planning to gather in Skegness for a celebration over the Bank Holiday weekend, a news report in the local media was able to reveal.
East Lindsey District Council car park review comes as the council continues to seek a High Court date to take action against 30 travellers who have pitched up at North Parade car park.
One of the local tradespeople that could potentially be affected by travellers moving in, Mark Dannatt, owner of the Seaview Pub, said a lot of businesses have had to increase security or close early at such an important time in the season.
He said: “The authorities keep allowing this to go on, but a height barrier would keep them off the car park.”
ELDC is also in the process of consulting on an amendment to its car parking order with a view to installing height restriction barriers on all foreshore car parks in Skegness.
