An online petition asking for safety barriers to be installed at Newcastle’s Midway car park has already been signed by more than 120 people, who expressed their concerns following a number of recent incidents where people have died or been seriously injured after falling from the car park.
Bar worker Charlotte Titterton launched the petition after being one of the first people to find the body of a man who fell from the car park earlier this year, a news report in the local media was able to reveal. Another similar incident occurred only a couple of months later.
Pressure has mounted on Newcastle Borough Council to install barriers at the car park following the recent incidents. Council officers are considering ‘options’ for the car park but will not reveal what discussions they have had.
