A security fence has been erected around a 200-year-old Falmouth cemetery in order to prevent vandalism and safety hazards for visitors, following a strong campaign in the local community.
The surrounding boundary to Ponsharden Cemeteries, which dates back to 1808, has been subsiding for years. For this reason, a group of local residents has been campaigning since 2012 to make the site safe and has applied for grants from English Heritage, among other funders, a local news source could reveal.
Quite recently, a 6ft fence was erected around the three sides of the cemetery finally stop anyone from entering. This work was part of wider plans by Falmouth Town Council and English Heritage to improve the site.
