Porthmadog Harbour station undergoes £1.3m makeover

product-glass-turn Porthmadog Harbour station undergoes £1.3m makeoverPorthmadog Harbour station in Wales has just re-opened following the completion of comprehensive refurbishment works, a news report in the local media has recently revealed.

As part of the redevelopment work, a new island platform has been created on a widened section of the Cob Embankment. A new signalling system has been installed and tested and the station refurbished throughout. The improved station will enable passengers to travel to Blaenau Ffestiniog on the Ffestiniog Railway and to Caernarfon on the Welsh Highland Railway.

Dr John Prideaux, Ffestiniog Railway chairman, said: “Rebuilding and resignalling has been an ambitious project. It involved a huge number of volunteers, excellent local contractors and staff and called on skills more usually associated with the national network than with a heritage railway. The quality is outstanding.

“It has been carried out over three winters, and in some terrible weather including 100mph gales. Completing such a complicated project on time and despite adverse conditions reflects huge credit on all the volunteers, contractors and staff who have been involved.”

Station redevelopments or upgrades should also typically include access control and ticketing solutions, and this is specifically where Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles could put its extensive experience in this field to very good use.

Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles supplies a variety of access restriction and control solutions, all of which have been specifically designed to work either as stand-alone units or as part of an integrated system. All of these could come particularly in handy for securing the various access routes into the station.
