The car park at Flitwick Rail Station is set to undergo some major refurbishment works after Central Bedfordshire Council will take full control of it starting with March 31, a news report in the local media has recently revealed.
The local authority will be carrying out surface repair works and the installation of ticket machines over the course of April, while also installing special signage informing car park users of this change in management. As part of the future redevelopment and improvement of this area, the council is working with partners towards providing much improved, and where feasible, increased car parking facilities, a public transport interchange centred on the rail station and new retail and commercial facilities.
Councillor Brian Spurr, executive member for sustainable communities, services said: “We know that commuter parking can be an issue near mainline rail services and we wanted to continue to provide this important facility and improve it as well.
“The improvement works will be carried out over the weekend so any disruption to car park users will be kept to a minimum. Operation of the adjacent station car park managed by First Capital Connect will not be affected in any way.”
