The Granby Street car park in Loughborough is set to undergo a significant refurbishment as part of a £250,000 scheme that will start in February and will make over-staying penalties a thing of the past.
As a news report in the local media has revealed, Charnwood Borough Council decided to help out drivers by implementing a series of upgrades that would make the car park suitable for long-stay parking, with six hours or more costing £6 during the day and only 60p in the evening.
As part of the project, the car park will be resurfaced, new barriers will be installed and new pay-on-foot machines set up. Works are expected to last for eight weeks with completion scheduled on March 28, 2014.
Councillor Jane Hunt, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said: “We are committed to the growth and prosperity of Loughborough and Charnwood and making Loughborough a destination for shopping and visiting.
We know pay-on-foot car parks are more popular with visitors and so I am pleased to welcome this improvement while continuing to provide free parking for blue badge holders for three hours.
“This is a very important step to help make the town centre grow and prosper.”
