Residents in East Kilbride are asking the local council to securely fence off the car park of a disused tenpin bowling alley after travellers occupied the site illegally, a news report in the local media has revealed.
Although the site off Stroud Road, Greenhills, was only briefly occupied and was thoroughly cleared in just a few day’s time, local residents along with SNP councillor John Anderson, say the area needs to be properly fenced off to prevent the same thing happening again.
After receiving a number of calls about the camp from nearby residents, the councillor said: “I want to see a permanent metal fence erected as the temporary concrete blocks failed to prevent the traveller invasion.
“Secure metal fencing of the site will prevent any more incursions.
“It will also prevent our council tax being used to pay for court involvement in the future and the costs involved for the site owners in clearing up.”
