Cambridge guided bus gets stuck on rising bollards

product-bollardposts Cambridge guided bus gets stuck on rising bollardsA guided double-decker bus was damaged by the electric bollards in Emmanuel Street, Cambridge, during a collision that happened on Saturday at about 5pm.

The barriers work automatically and were installed to close the route to through traffic except for authorised vehicles, which are issued with electronic tags to lower them. However, for a reason that’s still under investigation, they went up too soon, effectively trapping the bus.

A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said: “We are currently checking the CCTV footage to help establish the cause of the accident. No faults were reported with the bollards before this incident and the rising bollard system is designed to prevent them rising up in front or beneath a vehicle which is fitted with the necessary transponder.”

While the exact circumstances of this accident are yet to be determined, the truth of the matter is that the chances of it being caused by a system malfunction or error are quite small. Moreover, given the size of the vehicle stopped in its tracks, the automatic bollard system did manage to prove its level of efficiency.

Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles offers a high-end, reliable, yet quite affordable access restriction solution of this type as well, our Automatic Bollards being specifically designed to limit vehicle access to a specific location, and then be lowered rapidly when passage is authorised, typically within 2-3 seconds.

Our bollards are constructed out of concrete, stainless steel, aluminium or cast iron and are sturdy enough to be able to completely stop the majority of vehicles. Furthermore, they’re also quite resilient to atmospheric elements, and are housed inside compartments set into the road surface.

Additionally, an access control device, such as a smart card, can be combined with the automatic bollards, enabling quick and easy raising and lowering of the post. The Car Park Barriers & Turnstiles automatic bollards also sport an anti-intrusion locking system, as well as a failsafe in both retracted and extended position.
