Rail authorities are signalling determination to beat cable thefts which have cost the industry more than £300,000 on one stretch of the railway alone. Network Rail spokesman, route managing director Patrick Hallgate, believes areas of the North Cotswold line have been targeted by organised criminals. He said: “We will continue to do all we can to stop these thieves but it is clear the law needs substantial change in order to take away the easy market for illegal scrap.”
