There are safety fears at a closed mine site which has been dubbed a “tragedy waiting to happen”. The site is on the boundary between Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot boroughs. Community councillor Luke Ellis paid a visit with colleagues to the area last week to assess the risks. He said: “It takes just a minute to get from the first open gate to the sheer, sudden drop to the half-mile deep water. This whole place is a tragedy waiting to happen.”
