The government has rejected claims that re-offending rates will go up if emergency deficit busting measures continue on their course. The Probation Service said there will be more victims of crime if "draconian" public spending cuts of 25 per cent go ahead in this autumn’s spending review. However, the government has said there is no evidence that cuts to the Probation Service would lead to an increase in crime.
